Typing keywords into the "all of the words" field will return newspaper pages that contain all of the words you enter into this field. This is the equivalent of putting the word "and" between keywords.

Typing keywords into the "with the exact phrase" field will return newspapers containing the phrase exactly as you typed it. This is the equivalent of putting quotation marks around your keywords. It is not necessary to use quotation marks in this field.

Typing keywords into the "with at least one of the words" field will return newspapers that contain any of the words you enter. This is the equivalent of putting the word "or" between your keywords. It is not necessary to use "or" in this field.

Typing keywords into the "without the words" field will return newspapers that do not contain the keywords you enter.

You may narrow your search by publication date. Selecting an exact date or between years will allow you to only search newspapers that were published on the dates you specify.

To narrow your search to an exact date, simply select the radio button next to "exact date" and choose a date from the drop–down menu. Remember, if something happened on a specific day, it may have not made the papers until the following day.

All fields in the exact date search are optional. For example, if you want to search "July 4" for every year in the archive, select "7" for the month, "4" for the day and leave "year" selected for the year.

To narrow your search to a range of years, simply select the radio button next to "between years." Then, select a beginning year and an ending year. This will limit your search to newspapers published between those two years.

You may narrow your results even further by publication. Each selection is optional. Simply select a title to only search newspapers from that title.
